The annual "Human Language Technologies - the Baltic Perspective" (Baltic HLT 2016) conference will take place on October 6-7, 2016, in Riga, Latvia. The conference will bring together scientists, developers, providers, and users to discuss the state-of-the-art in Human Language Technologies in the Baltic states. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange information, discuss problems, find new synergies, and promote initiatives for international cooperation.

Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts on substantial, original, and unpublished research in the areas of natural language processing and language technologies. Topics include, but are not limited to: compilation of language and speech resources, human-computer interaction, lexicons, terminology and ontologies, machine translation and speech recognition and synthesis, among others. Original research on processing the languages of the three Baltic states – Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian – is especially welcome. Baltic HLT 2016 serves as a forum for the sharing of new ideas and recent advances in human language processing, as well as a platform for cooperation between the computer science and linguistics research communities in the Baltic states and beyond.

This year, the event will also play an important role in gathering and consolidating ideas related to cooperation in the EU Research and Innovation programme "Horizon 2020" and in the new period of the EU structural funds (2014-2020).

The Baltic HLT 2016 conference is organized by the language technology company Tilde in cooperation with University of Latvia and its Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science.
